A ply core with rubber wings and a hardwood centre strip — drop on the rubber, lift on the wood, which is what protects both.
Supplied cut and ready to assemble; it screws down to itself rather than to your floor. It wears slowly and visibly, so you replace it because you decided to rather than because it failed mid-session.
