Sound was the point of Stesa 236: it takes the crack out of a drop and leaves a thud, which is the difference between a gym and a complaint.
A ply core with rubber wings and a hardwood centre strip — drop on the rubber, lift on the wood, which is what protects both.
The centre strip is replaceable on its own when it eventually marks up. There is nothing inside it to break loose or settle out of balance.
